How many oxygen sensors are on a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix? And are they hard to change? thanks.?

I purchased this car about 2 weeks ago %26amp; its got a bad idle to it. So i took it to Advanced Auto Parts %26amp; they put it on a tester thing %26amp;%26amp; said the %26quot;oxygen sensor%26quot; was bad. They said that there may be more than one but i have no clue where to locate these. Anything could help me at this point. Thanks.|||IIRC one is on the header and the other is within a foot from the catalytic converter (going towards the rear) The special tool spoken of is basically a pair of pliers with the end in the shape of a hex like a socket, but you can also use a set of vise grips and do it that way. One thing to remember is that especially because its an older car, it may not have been changed ever so its probably rusted in and you WILL strip it! :/ I recommend you drench it in WD40 or liquid wrench over and over and hope it will break it lose. I believe all cars have 2 sensors cause the ECU has to get a reading before and after the cat for a proper reading.

Good luck with the change.|||I drive a 2000 Grand AM and my check engine light has been on for over a year now and the computer scan only says the oxygen sensor is bad. So I would think your car would still be ok to drive for quite a while. Also you can just call a repair shop and ask their advice an O2 sensor costs about $70 plus labor for installation.|||it should have 2 oxygen sensors they aren%26#039;t that hard to replace you do need a special socket to remove them on some cars not sure if your does or not they will either be in your exhaust manifold or under the car towards the front with wired connected to them looks almost like a over sized spark plug with a wire coming out of top of it|||One right behind the motor in the back manifold #1 and another under the car #2. They are easy to change as long as they turn out with out taking out the threads. Depending on which Code Number Auto-Parts store found Heater O2 sensor #1 or #2
