its a 3.1cutlass cieara 1994,it misses like crazy and backfires.then after i get it running good,i let it idol itll die,then it is real hard to start,acts like its running on 2 cylinders missing really bad but itll finally straighten up and run good.i changed the oxygen sensor,didnt help.

For what you spent on the o2 sensor, you could have almost paid for a professional shop to PROPERLY diagnose the problem in the first place. I would take it to a shop and have it checked.

Is the check engine / service engine soon light on? If so, that would be a good place to start your diagnostics. A mass air flow sensor is a possible cause. How old are your plugs and wires?
check plug wires and plugs if it is a distributor type ignition check rotor button and cap if ok check timing
check for codes

why the hell does everyone change the o2 sensor?? I wish i had stock i that company!
Sounds like there may be a fuelling issue here, maybe a weak fuel pump or a clogged fuel filter, or maybe even a faulty coolant temperature sensor.
I personally would have a fuel pressure test carried out before I did anything else.
