ECU fault on Vauxhall Astra M reg 1.4i - what is a fault code 13 (oxygen sensor: no change in voltage) mean?

We have an M reg Vauxhall Astra, and the engine management light/ECU comes on occassionally for around 10 seconds, particularly when travelling at speeds of 55mph +, or when doing a journey longer than 30 minutes.

I've just done the ECU diagnostics and it has come up with a fault code 13, which is %26quot;no change in voltage/open circuit%26quot; in the oxygen sensor.

The light only comes on occassionally, and the car doesn't jerk or lose power when this comes on. Is this a major problem, and would it be an expensive repair?

Thanks in advance.

it means that you need to look up the code in a service manual, and perform the indicated tests to see where the problem is. the computer codes only tell you what system is being affected, they dont tell you what the problem is.

u could try an oxy sensor from a car breakers and get ur codes reset. this may solve the prob and save u paying mega bucks at a garage
you have a faulty oxygen sensor (lambda sensor), the voltage at the sensor should be changing constantly to control the air fuel mixture, if you take the car for an m.o.t. it will fail due to the emissions being to high and the mistake a lot of tester make is that they will tell you that the catalyst converter is at fault and charge you a fortune to replace it when all your car needs is a new lambda sensor, these can be bought at good motor factors and all you need to change it is a 22mm spanner.
Hi, code 13 is usually caused by code 14 which is a map sensor problem, Best thing to do is check the line from the sensor for vacuum leaks or (just replace the line not a big deal) and be done with it getting that out of the way, sometimes moisture/ water will get it messed up, you may still have to replace the sensor. --- Code 13 coming up means you have a loss in the manifold pressure which both work together and if one reads a little different you will get a light. Also to be on the safe side check the ground from the unit. Last thing i would do is replace the oxygen sensor, but it never hurts to replace it anyway, it's just a $20. part, But i know how feels to depart with money buying parts that may not be the problem but sometimes that the only way. Hope this helps and don't forget to vote!!!!!!
