Would a exhaust leak before the catalytic converter and a bad Oxygen Sensor cause these problems?

I went to Pep Boys and my Ford Ranger 2.5l i4 would intermittenly almost stall and accelleration would be awful if my car could even accelerate at times. I just bought this truck 2 weeks ago and it has 150k miles on it. I just got the Mass Airflow Sensor changed out since that was bad and did an entire tune-up on it. They also told me that there was an exhaust leak after the headers but before the cat. converter and that the same O2 sensor that was right there was bad to but they could not fix and I would have to take it to a muffler shop. Pep-boys has always been completely honest with me, but does this sound like it will almost completely fix my problem. If really try to accelerate hard I can barely make the shift out of second - I have a manual trns. However, 50% of the time It runs %26quot;OK%26quot; to be generous. Could it also be the fuel system event though they did not find anything wrong with that. Any input would help.

The O2 sensor tells the computer whether the engine is running rich or lean. If it's bad, and telling your computer that the truck's running rich. The computer will try to starve off the fuel delivery to even out the mixture to acceptable levels. It could be the problem. The exhaust leak doesn't do anything to the engine performance.

O2 sensors are cheap and easy to replace, you might as well swap it out yourself. ee if it helps.

you want too keep this truck awhile so get a code scanner .it will save alot of trust isues.

then you can buy your part ,take it to who you want and just have it installed.

or pay for the scann every time you want it to run right.

The symptoms you describe point to a restricted exhaust system, and 90% of the time that means your catalytic converter has failed, and will need to be replaced. Yes, you will need a muffler shop, and if I'm right, it's going to be expensive, sorry.
Slight back peddle there. Could not replace o2 sensor? Get a recommendation for a shop to get second opinion. Could be the problem, but sounds if there is some question in their mind. Should not be that hard to diagnose.
