my car , honda civic 1.4 engine light keeps on coming on. when checked it comes up as o2 sensor under exhaust manifold. That has been changed twice along with spark plugs, oil filter, air filter, injectors are fine but still the light comes on every time i reset it. the car runs fine only changes are the rougher ride, and pick up is slower and lacks pull especially on hills, also petrol indictor light doesnt work. ive also tried using fuel cleaner solution to no avail. ive been told the problem could the actual oxygen sensor, map/maf sensor, catalytic converter, fuel filter or fuel pump. any suggestions??
Engine light, oxygen sensor changed already?
Wow.
You would have spent less money getting a tech with the proper tools to diagnose and repair for you.
Congratulations.
Engine light, oxygen sensor changed already?
the car has a MAF sensor. you can buy spray cleaner for it. clean the sensor and with whats left in the can clean the EGR valve. And stop buying o2 sensors.
Hi
Just because the fault code points to the O2 sensor, it doesn't mean the sensor is at fault.
The code probably points to O2 sensor activity (too much, too little, or none at all) and this is because the O2 sensor is fighting to rectify a fuelling problem by switching out of spec and then being framed for doing so.
For example, if the O2 sensor is overactive then you could have an over fuelling problem and the sensor is switching high to try and turn the fuel down, or if the sensor is inactive or underactive then you could have an underfuelling problem and therefore the sensor is switching low to try and turn the fuel up, but in both cases, because it doesn't ever settle back to its normal activity due to having to permanently contend with the underlying problem, it gets flagged in the fault memory.
It sounds to all intents and purposes as though you have a dirty MAF sensor, which can be cleaned using switch or intake cleaner, but this is just a typical guess according to the symptoms.
Very best regards
