Can anyone help me change out an oxygen sensor?

I have a 2001 chevy silverado and my check engine light just came on with two codes reading cylidlnder 8 backfire???... And oxygen sensor fail. Never changed o2 sensor but understand its not too difficult. I found this site: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQChevroletQQSilverado_1500_HDQQReplacementQQOxygen_SensorQQ20012007QQUSOS-1000.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e%26amp;gan=1%26amp;apwidYut7O5k

is this the correct part? And is there any advice you can give me about approaching these check engine light problems? Thanks.

The O2 sensor fault code is telling you that the computer thinks there is something wrong with your air mixture. 9 times out of 10 the O2 sensor fault code is not a bad sensor. It could be an air leak, vacuum leak, a dirty air filter, a bad catalytic converter, fuel pressure, or a number of other things. I'm not saying don't replace it but don't be surprised if a new sensor doesn't fix the problem. You might want to run a few diagnostics before blindly putting in a new sensor.

From the description of your truck it looks like the right one. You'll need a special socket to remove the sensor. It has a cut-out in the side for the wire lead to go through. And you'll need the socket because an O2 sensor gets hot and cause the threads seize up over time. Without the six point socket the hex will just round off. Disconnect the lead wire, remove the old one, reverse steps to install. Put some high temperature anti-seize compound on the threads before you screw it in.
IT HELP IF YOU SHOW WHAT ENGINE CODES YOU GET FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. YOU DON%26quot;T WANT TO REPLACE PARTS THAT YOU DON%26quot;T NEED. TO BE ACCURATE TO FIX YOUR CAR, PLEASE STATE THE CODES SO I CAN GIVE YOU STEP BY STEP
