I was told by the car lot that im buying it from that it does not have transmission problems. They said I need to change oxygen sensors. Autozone checked it and said I need to change oxygen sensors also. Can that really solve the problem?
I have a 98 dodge ram truck that smoke when started and has trouble shifting into 1st%26amp;2nd gears.?
bad valve stem seals will cause one to smoke when you first start it up and on the transmission you need to try changing the fluid and filter first on it,sometimes when the fluid gets sort of dirty that causes them to hesitate between first and second gear, even a bad throttle position sensor can cause one to not change gears right, good luck with it.

change the sensors. as for the shifting problem, I would have that looked at by a reputable mechanic.
smoking after start up indicates there could be a problem with the piston rings do a compression test,as for the shifting problem there could a problem with the clutch or linkages.
