Where is the oxygen sensor on a 1996 mercury sable 3.0L, dohc engine. I need to change the sensor on bank 1.?

Is the oxygen sensor for bank one the sensor close to the firewall before the catalytic convertor? Can I get to the o2 sensor from the top side of the engine, or do I have to get to it from underneath.

the O2 sensor on any car i have seen looks like it doesn't belong. It is either on your exhaust manifold or somewhere between your manifold and the catylitic converter. it is a tube looking thing sticking out with a wire coming out the end

More than likely, there are more than one, maybe as many as three or four, not sure about a '96. Best bet, go to a public library, and look it up in a manual. There maybe a website with this information, but I don't know.
