How do you change the oxygen sensor in a 1998 BMW 328i?

Haven't picked up the Bentley manual yet and I'm going today to pick up the sensor. I'd rather do it myself if I'm capable than have to pay autozone to do it if they do.

If anyone knows it would be a big help

Thanks

Your car has 4 O2 sensors, Two before the catalysts, and two after. Typically, the ones that fail are the pre-cat sensors, which are located on the exhaust manifolds.

Take a look at this diagram:

Replace both together. And don't buy a generic sensor from Autozone. Get ones with the proper connectors, for reliable long-term service. Places like bimmerparts.com and rmeuropean.com typically have decent prices.

It very simply is easy it unscrews out of the manifold or the pipe unplugs and screw the other one in reconnect (i put never seize on the threads so it wont get stuck if i ever have to remove it again) Just don't touch the the end it can cause it to fail with the oil on your finger tips. make sure you know what sensor you need front or rear you do have two of them. Most cases it is the front one.
